The Fijian Cabinet has given the green light for the creation of a Drug Rehabilitation Centre within the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS). This important decision was made during the first cabinet meeting of the year held in Suva.
The establishment of this centre aims to provide tailored interventions for convicted drug offenders, focusing on their rehabilitation and offering them a chance for successful reintegration into society. The rehabilitation programs that will be implemented at the centre are set to adhere to the standards established by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
This initiative represents a significant step toward addressing the challenges associated with drug-related offenses in Fiji. By focusing on rehabilitation rather than solely punishment, the programme holds the promise of not only transforming the lives of individuals but also fostering safer and healthier communities in the long run. This proactive approach reflects a growing recognition of the importance of mental health and addiction treatment within the correctional system.
