The Nadi Barracuda Swim Club made a strong showing at the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals, which started yesterday at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva. The competition took place in a 25-metre pool, as club members adapted to challenging weather conditions that differed greatly from the sunny, warm environment they are accustomed to in the West.

Ben Rova, the club’s president, reported that despite the initial poor weather, the swimming events proceeded without a hitch. He expressed his appreciation for the support shown by parents and fans, as well as gratitude towards officials for their management of the event.

“It’s been great to be back poolside and see all the different clubs here today. While the weather wasn’t ideal this morning, the support from families has been wonderful,” Rova noted.

He remarked on the ongoing results of club members achieving personal bests and observed that the competitive landscape this year felt different from previous years. “The competition has spread out; previously, we would have grand prix events every other week, but right now many swimmers are missing due to their exams,” he added.

The competition is set to conclude today.
