The brother of a former CEO of the Fiji Sugar Corporation reportedly received an annual salary of $80,000, according to statements made by Minister for Sugar Charan Jeath Singh. This information was provided by the FSC board during a recent discussion. Singh noted that the individual traveled from South Africa to Fiji for a holiday and that his position within the FSC remains unclear.
Furthermore, Singh criticized the hiring process, pointing out that proper protocols were not followed, as there was no job advertisement publicly posted. He expressed uncertainty about the specifics of the man’s role, mentioning that he lacked a job description and suggesting that he seemed to have little actual responsibility.
In addition to his salary, Singh stated that the FSC covered the expenses for the foreigner’s airfare from South Africa to Fiji. When questioned about whether he would escalate the matter to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, Singh indicated that he would await guidance from the board before proceeding, affirming that he could not act independently in this situation.
These remarks were made while Singh engaged with farmers in Bucaisau, located on the outskirts of Labasa Town.
