Fiji Strengthens Ties with UN Ahead of Key Pacific Meeting

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka engaged in bilateral discussions with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in Nuku’alofa, Tonga, ahead of the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum Meeting. During their conversation, Rabuka emphasized Fiji’s strong commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, which the country has adhered to since its accession to the UN in 1970. He reiterated Fiji’s belief in the power of multilateralism as a collective approach to tackle global issues. “Our ongoing participation on the international stage reflects our resilience and the valuable contributions we are making towards creating a better world,” he stated. Additionally, Rabuka participated in a service at the Centenary Church with other Pacific Island leaders, where they sought guidance and unity in confronting the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for their region.
