William Toganivalu, Fiji’s traveling ambassador to the Pacific Island Countries and Territories, presented his letter of credentials to His Excellency David Adeang, the president of the Republic of Nauru, designating him as Fiji’s non-resident high commissioner to Nauru.

President Adeang reaffirmed Nauru’s dedication to enhancing bilateral relations with Fiji and addressing the opportunities and challenges faced by the Pacific region together. He also recalled a meeting with Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka, Fiji’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister, in June, where he expressed Nauru’s support for the Ocean of Peace program, aimed at promoting stability and peace in the Pacific.

Following the presentation of his credentials, Ambassador Toganivalu paid courtesy visits to several Nauruan government ministers, including Reagan Winson Aliklik, Minister of Transport; Honorable Charmaine Scotty, Minister of Health and Medical Services; Darrina Kun, Secretary of Education; and Lionel Rouwen Aingimea, former president and current Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Justice, and Border Control (Immigration).

Additionally, Ambassador Toganivalu addressed the innovative steps taken by Fiji’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to improve engagement with Fijians living abroad, highlighting a newly revamped website that includes a portal for diaspora members to register their contact information. This initiative aims to improve the Ministry’s response in emergencies and provide better insights into the Fijian diaspora overseas.

Furthermore, he expressed heartfelt gratitude for the contributions made by the Fijian diaspora to the economies of both Nauru and Fiji, emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural heritage and maintaining strong connections to their home country.
