Fiji Strengthens Leadership: Six Permanent Secretaries Reappointed

The Public Service Commission, with the Prime Minister’s consent, has announced the reappointment of six Permanent Secretaries following a thorough recruitment process. PSC Chairperson Luke Rokovada confirmed that these individuals will guide their ministries through the next phase of growth.

Rokovada explained that the Commission determined the reappointments were warranted due to the Permanent Secretaries’ in-depth knowledge of their ministries, demonstrated success, and clear vision for the future.

Pita Tagicakirewa will continue as Permanent Secretary for I-Taukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage, and Arts until November 2025. Seema Sharma will serve as Permanent Secretary for Local Government until December 2025. Yogesh Karan has been reappointed as Permanent Secretary for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and the Sugar Industry, also until December 2025. Shaheen Ali will lead the Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications portfolio until December 2025.

Susan Kiran has been designated Secretary to Cabinet until June 2026, and she will take on the role of Permanent Secretary for Information starting September 2, 2024. Dr. Raijeli Taga has been reappointed as Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources until her transition to a new Ministry in October 2024.

Rokovada noted that all reappointed Permanent Secretaries are Fijian nationals, highlighting the growing talent pool in Fiji and the Civil Service’s ability to attract and retain high-quality professionals.
