Fiji Sports Conference Set to Transform the Future of Athletics

Sports administrators have gathered for the National Sporting Organisations Conference, which commenced yesterday at the Harbour Point Convention Centre in Lami. The conference brings together officials from various sports disciplines to discuss vital issues shaping the sporting landscape in Fiji.

The event, opened by Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, features multiple sessions with notable speakers, including Mark Evans, CEO of Fijian Drua, Peter Mazey, CEO of the Fiji National Sports Commission, Vanessa Kilner, CEO of FASANOC, and Atma Maharaj from the 2032 Brisbane Olympics Committee. These leaders are set to address topics such as governance, youth development, sports tourism, and mental health for athletes.

A highlight of the conference was the announcement of the nominees for the 2024 Fiji Sports Awards, made last night. This year’s awards showcase an impressive number of 112 nominees across 22 national sporting organizations, indicating a strong commitment to sporting excellence in Fiji, a substantial increase from the previous year’s nominations.

Today’s sessions will continue to attract voices from various sports disciplines, including weightlifting, touch rugby, amateur boxing, athletics, rugby, netball, outrigger canoeing, cricket, swimming, and football. The discussions are anticipated to inspire innovative ideas for enhancing the structure and future of sports in Fiji, echoing sentiments of empowerment through collaboration and community engagement.

This conference not only serves as a platform for dialogue but also promotes a spirit of unity among sports enthusiasts in Fiji. The ongoing endeavors aimed at enhancing sports governance and development could lead to a transformative impact on Fiji’s sporting community, fostering a promising future for athletes and reducing barriers to sports participation for all individuals.
