Fiji has improved its position in the latest FIFA World Ranking, rising four places to become the second highest ranked team in the Oceania region. Under the guidance of coach Rob Sherman, the Bula Boys are now ranked 146th, marking their highest position since 2011.
The team’s ascent in the rankings followed a successful match against the Solomon Islands, which they won 1-0 on October 10 during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
New Zealand has also made significant strides, climbing to 91st place, their best ranking since 2016, aided by victories over Tahiti and Malaysia.
Additionally, New Caledonia and Vanuatu have both moved up five spots to 155th and 157th respectively, following their wins in World Cup qualifying matches. Conversely, Papua New Guinea has seen a decline, dropping to 171st, their lowest ranking since 2018.
In the top tier of global teams, Argentina remains in first place, but their lead over second-ranked France and third-ranked Spain has narrowed. England (4th), Brazil (5th), and Belgium (6th) maintain their standings, while Portugal (7th, up 1) and Italy (9th, up 1) have made gains. The Netherlands (8th, down 1) and Colombia (10th, down 1) round out the top ten, with Germany (11th, up 2) close behind.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking is scheduled for release on November 28, 2024.
