The Cabinet has reached a consensus to revise the 2002 Passport Act to facilitate the issuance of Official Passports specifically to qualified senior officials, intended solely for official use during their term of appointment.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka disclosed this development, clarifying that the Official Passport is one of four passport categories managed by the Fiji Immigration Department, primarily designated for disciplined forces on peacekeeping missions. The remaining categories include the Ordinary Passport, Diplomatic Passport, and Emergency Passport.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Rabuka mentioned that these amendments will be presented again before the Cabinet for further evaluation.
This move underscores a commitment to streamline the official travel process for senior officials, thereby enhancing efficiency in governmental operations during appointments. The focus on peacekeeping reflects Fiji’s ongoing commitment to contributing to international stability and security.
Overall, this amendment offers a hopeful outlook for improved governance and strategic engagement on the global stage.
