The Cabinet has approved Fiji as the host for the World Health Organisation’s 76th Regional Committee Meeting for the Western Pacific Region, scheduled for 2025. This committee serves as the governing body for the WHO in the region, representing thirty-seven Member States and areas, alongside Associate Members. Each year, the Regional Committee convenes to develop policies, oversee regional programs, receive progress reports, and evaluate new initiatives. The committee’s resolutions and decisions shape the direction for the Regional Office and country offices for the following year. Notably, this will mark the first time an independent Pacific Island nation will host a WHO Regional Committee Meeting.
