Fiji Sees Surge in Residents Departing and Record-Breaking Visitor Arrivals

According to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS), a total of 15,223 residents left Fiji in July. Among these departures, 13,488 residents, making up 88.6 percent, were for short-term stays of less than three months. Additionally, 625 residents, or 4.1 percent, left for a period over three months but less than a year. Long-term absences of one year or more accounted for 1,110 residents, representing 7.3 percent of the total departures.

The FBoS also reported that provisional figures indicate visitor arrivals in July 2024 reached 98,332. Out of this number, 97,331 visitors arrived by air, while 1,001 arrived by sea, primarily comprised of 718 seamen on fishing vessels and 283 yacht arrivals.

Holidaymakers represented 79.9 percent of total arrivals, while 9.9 percent visited friends or relatives, 1.6 percent came for business purposes, and 8.6 percent visited for other reasons. This figure marks a record for July and shows a notable increase of 5.2 percent compared to the same month last year. There was also a 6.2 percent rise compared to June 2024, which had 92,571 arrivals. In contrast, visitor totals for July in 2023 and 2022 were recorded at 93,483 and 78,368, respectively.
