Fiji Sees Surge in Long-Term Departures: What’s Behind the Trend?

In July, a total of 1,110 Fijians left the country for long-term absences of one year or more, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics. Of these, 850 Fijians are expected to be away for periods ranging from one to five years, while 260 individuals will be absent for more than five years or permanently.

The statistics show that there were 214 instances of emigration registered in July.
