During July, a total of 15,223 residents from Fiji left the country, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS). Among these departures, 13,488 individuals, or 88.6 percent, were for short-term stays of less than three months, while 625 residents, representing 4.1 percent, were absent for periods ranging from three months up to a year. Furthermore, 1,110 residents, or 7.3 percent, left for longer-term absences of one year or more.
The FBoS also reported that provisional figures indicated total visitor arrivals to Fiji for July 2024 reached 98,332. Of these visitors, 97,331 traveled by air and 1,001 by sea, with the sea arrivals primarily comprising 718 seamen and 283 yacht visitors.
The report highlighted that 79.9 percent of visitors came for vacationing purposes, while 9.9 percent visited friends or relatives, 1.6 percent were there for business, and 8.6 percent arrived for other reasons. This figure marks the highest number of arrivals for July in history, reflecting a notable increase of 5.2 percent compared to the same month last year. It also shows a 6.2 percent rise from June 2024, which recorded 92,571 arrivals. For context, visitor arrivals in July 2023 and 2022 were 93,483 and 78,368, respectively.
