Fiji Sees Surge in Departures and Record Visitor Arrivals for July 2024

A total of 15,223 residents from Fiji left the country in July, according to data from the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS). Among these departures, 13,488 individuals, or 88.6 percent, were for short-term stays of less than three months. Additionally, 625 residents, or 4.1 percent, departed for periods ranging from three months to one year, while 1,110 residents, accounting for 7.3 percent, left for longer-term absences of one year or more.

The FBoS also reported provisional figures indicating that visitor arrivals in July 2024 reached 98,332. Out of this total, 97,331 visitors arrived by air and 1,001 by sea. Most sea arrivals consisted of seamen on fishing vessels, numbering 718, along with 283 arriving by yacht.

Notably, 79.9 percent of visitors in July came for vacation purposes, while 9.9 percent were visiting friends or family, 1.6 percent arrived for business, and 8.6 percent had other reasons for their visit. This marks a record high for July arrivals and reflects a significant increase of 5.2 percent compared to the previous year. In comparison to June 2024, which had 92,571 arrivals, there was a rise of 6.2 percent. For reference, visitor arrivals in July for 2023 and 2022 were recorded at 93,483 and 78,368, respectively.
