Fiji Sees Record July Departures and Visitor Arrivals

In July, 15,223 residents of Fiji left the country, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS). Among these departures, 13,488 individuals, or 88.6 percent, were leaving for short-term stays of less than three months. Meanwhile, 625 residents, accounting for 4.1 percent, were away for periods longer than three months but less than 12 months. Additionally, 1,110 residents, or 7.3 percent, would be absent for one year or more.

The FBoS also reported that provisional figures indicated a total of 98,332 visitors arrived in Fiji in July 2024. Of these visitors, 97,331 arrived by air and 1,001 by sea, predominantly comprising 718 seamen on fishing vessels and 283 travelers arriving by yacht.

Visitors arriving for vacation purposes made up 79.9 percent of total arrivals, while 9.9 percent came to see friends and family, 1.6 percent had business-related visits, and 8.6 percent arrived for other reasons. This marks a record high for the month of July, with a significant increase of 5.2 percent compared to the same month last year.

Additionally, there was a 6.2 percent rise compared to June 2024, which registered 92,571 visitors. Visitor numbers for July in 2023 and 2022 were recorded at 93,483 and 78,368, respectively.
