In July, 15,223 residents of Fiji left the country, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS). Among these departures, 13,488 individuals, accounting for 88.6 percent, left for short-term stays of less than three months. Additionally, 625 residents, or 4.1 percent, left for a period of more than three months but less than 12 months. Long-term departures, defined as those staying abroad for one year or more, totaled 1,110, representing 7.3 percent of total resident departures.
The FBoS also reported that provisional figures indicate visitor arrivals in Fiji for July 2024 reached 98,332. Of these arrivals, 97,331 traveled by air, while 1,001 arrived by sea, primarily consisting of 718 seamen on fishing vessels and 283 arrivals by yacht.
Of the total visitors, 79.9 percent cited holiday purposes for their trip, 9.9 percent were visiting friends or relatives, 1.6 percent came for business, and 8.6 percent selected Fiji for other reasons. This number marks a record for July and signifies a 5.2 percent increase compared to the same month last year. There was also a 6.2 percent rise from June 2024, which recorded 92,571 visitors. In comparison to previous years, visitor arrivals in July 2023 and 2022 were recorded at 93,483 and 78,368, respectively.
