Fiji Sees Record Departures and Visitor Surge in July

During July, a total of 15,223 residents of Fiji left the country, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS). Among these departures, 13,488 individuals, representing 88.6 percent, were on short-term trips lasting less than three months. Meanwhile, 625 residents, or 4.1 percent, left for an extended duration between three months and up to 12 months. Notably, 1,110 residents, accounting for 7.3 percent, departed for a longer-term absence of one year or more.

Additionally, provisional data indicated that visitor arrivals in Fiji for July 2024 reached 98,332. Out of this number, 97,331 visitors arrived by air, while 1,001 came by sea, with the majority being seamen on fishing vessels (718) and 283 arriving by yacht.

In terms of purpose, 79.9 percent of visitors came for holiday reasons, 9.9 percent visited friends or relatives, 1.6 percent traveled for business, and 8.6 percent were in Fiji for other purposes. This figure marks a record for July and represents a notable increase of 5.2 percent compared to the same month last year. Furthermore, there was a 6.2 percent rise from June 2024, which saw a total of 92,571 arrivals. For context, visitor numbers for July in previous years were 93,483 in 2023 and 78,368 in 2022.
