In July, a total of 15,223 residents from Fiji left the country, according to data from the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS). Among these departures, 13,488 individuals, representing 88.6 percent, were for short-term absences lasting less than three months. Additionally, 625 individuals, or 4.1 percent, departed for a duration exceeding three months but less than 12 months. Meanwhile, 1,110 residents, which is 7.3 percent, left for a longer-term absence of one year or more.
The FBoS also reported that provisional figures indicated that visitor arrivals in July 2024 reached 98,332. Of these visitors, 97,331 arrived by air, while 1,001 came by sea. The majority of sea arrivals were seamen on fishing vessels, totaling 718, with an additional 283 arriving by yacht.
Most visitors in July came for holiday purposes, accounting for 79.9 percent of total arrivals. Additionally, 9.9 percent came to visit friends or relatives, 1.6 percent for business purposes, and 8.6 percent visited for other reasons. This number marks a record high for July and reflects a notable increase of 5.2 percent compared to the same month the previous year. It also shows a 6.2 percent rise compared to June 2024, which had reported 92,571 visitors. In July 2023, visitor arrivals were recorded at 93,483, while the total for 2022 was 78,368.
