A total of 15,223 residents left Fiji in July, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS). Out of this number, 13,488, or 88.6 percent, were for short-term stays of less than three months, while 625 individuals, representing 4.1 percent, were away for over three months but less than a year. Additionally, 1,110 residents, or 7.3 percent, departed for a longer-term absence of one year or more.
The FBoS also reported that provisional figures indicate visitor arrivals in July 2024 reached 98,332. Among these visitors, 97,331 arrived by air, and 1,001 came by sea. The sea arrivals primarily consisted of 718 seamen from fishing vessels and 283 individuals arriving by yacht.
In terms of the purpose of the visits, 79.9 percent were for holiday reasons, 9.9 percent were visiting friends or relatives, 1.6 percent were for business, and 8.6 percent were for other purposes. This number marks a record for July and reflects a significant increase of 5.2 percent compared to the same month last year. Furthermore, there was a 6.2 percent rise compared to June 2024, which saw 92,571 arrivals. In previous years, visitor numbers for July were 93,483 in 2023 and 78,368 in 2022.
