In July, a total of 15,223 residents left Fiji, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS). Of those departures, 13,488—representing 88.6 percent—were for short-term stays of less than three months. Additionally, 625 residents, or 4.1 percent, were away for more than three months but less than 12 months. Meanwhile, 1,110 residents, accounting for 7.3 percent of the total, departed for longer-term absences of one year or more.
The FBoS also reported that provisional figures indicate visitor arrivals for July 2024 reached 98,332. Out of this number, 97,331 arrived by air while 1,001 arrived by sea, with the majority being seamen from fishing vessels (718) and 283 arriving by yacht.
A significant 79.9 percent of visitors came for holiday purposes, while 9.9 percent visited friends or relatives, 1.6 percent were there for business, and 8.6 percent had other reasons for their visit. This figure marks a record for the month of July, showcasing a notable 5.2 percent increase compared to the same month last year. Compared to June 2024, which recorded 92,571 visitors, this was a rise of 6.2 percent. In contrast, visitor numbers for July 2023 and 2022 were 93,483 and 78,368, respectively.
