In July, a total of 15,223 residents from Fiji left the country, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS). Among these departures, 13,488 individuals, representing 88.6 percent, were for short-term absences of less than three months. Additionally, 625 residents, accounting for 4.1 percent, were away for periods exceeding three months but less than 12 months. Furthermore, 1,110 residents, or 7.3 percent, left for longer-term stays of one year or more.
The FBoS also reported that provisional figures indicate that 98,332 visitors arrived in Fiji during July 2024. Of these visitors, 97,331 arrived by air while 1,001 traveled by sea. The maritime arrivals primarily included 718 seamen on fishing vessels and 283 arriving by yacht.
For those arriving during July, 79.9 percent visited for vacation purposes, 9.9 percent came to see friends or relatives, 1.6 percent were there for business, and 8.6 percent visited for other reasons. This marked a record number of arrivals for July and represented a notable increase of 5.2 percent compared to the same month last year. There was also a 6.2 percent rise compared to June 2024, which had recorded 92,571 arrivals. For reference, the visitor totals for July in 2023 and 2022 were 93,483 and 78,368, respectively.
