Fiji Seeks to Host 2026 Pacific Media Summit: What to Expect?

Fiji has officially submitted a proposal to host the Eighth Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) Media Summit in 2026. Fred Wesley, a board member of PINA and the editor-in-chief of Fiji Times, confirmed this after a meeting of PINA board members held in Niue.

While attending the ongoing Seventh PINA Media Summit, Wesley expressed Fiji’s desire to host the subsequent meeting, suggesting that it would be a unique experience for delegates traveling to Fiji. He stated, “We had our board meeting today and there were a couple of decisions that were made, and the big one was that Fiji wants to host the next PINA Summit in Savusavu. This is going to be a unique experience for delegates that will be coming across to Fiji which is something we are really looking forward to.”

Wesley emphasized the crucial role PINA plays in enhancing the skills of journalists throughout the region. He noted, “PINA was part of our discussions back home when we were discussing the decision to repeal the MIDA Act. They have also been part of initiatives and programs that involve the development of media organizations and journalists. They have been especially focused on the development of young journalists, training newcomers to the industry, and empowering them to uphold our journalistic values.”

The Seventh Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) Media Summit is set to conclude on September 26.
