Fiji Seeks New Police Commissioner Amid Controversy

The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is preparing to announce the recruitment process for a new Commissioner of Police shortly. Pio Tikoduadua, Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, confirmed that the COC is making progress in its search for a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.

“The COC will be advertising the position soon. We hope to see a diverse pool of applicants so we can appoint a substantive commissioner quickly,” Mr. Tikoduadua stated.

This opening follows the resignation of Sitiveni Qiliho, who stepped down earlier this month after being suspended on January 27 while serving a two-year prison sentence.

The search for a replacement can now continue, with Juki Fong Chew currently serving as the Acting Commissioner of Police.

The COC is an advisory entity that assists the President of Fiji in appointing key public roles, including the Commissioner of Police. It consists of six members, including the Prime Minister as the chairperson, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Attorney-General. The Prime Minister selects two additional members, while one member is chosen by the Opposition Leader.
