Fiji Schoolboys Gear Up for Tough Tests Against Australia

The Fiji Schoolboys under-18 team is gearing up for two Test matches against Australia. Head coach Peniona Ranitu has selected an extended squad of 38 players from the 80 who participated in trials on Wednesday. The final 30-member roster will be confirmed next week following a week-long training camp.

Ranitu highlighted the significance of maintaining player fitness, particularly after their recent participation in the Fiji Secondary School Deans competition. “The team will undergo strength and conditioning tests to evaluate their fitness levels and make necessary adjustments,” Ranitu stated. He noted the level of fitness observed during the initial trial and stressed the need to sustain it, as competing against the Australian team will be challenging.

Fiji Rugby Union’s technical coach Mike Legge is concentrating on enhancing the players’ core skills and position-specific techniques. He believes that developing these abilities will be crucial for the team to perform well against Australia.

The test matches are set to occur on September 27 and October 3 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
