The Fiji Schoolboys under-18 rugby team is gearing up for two Test matches against Australia. Head coach Peniona Ranitu has announced an extended squad of 38 players selected from 80 who participated in trials on Wednesday.

The final 30-player roster will be finalized next week following a week-long training camp. Ranitu highlighted the necessity of keeping the players fit, particularly after finishing a demanding season in the Fiji Secondary School Deans competition.

“The team will undergo strength and conditioning tests to evaluate their fitness and make any needed adjustments,” Ranitu stated. “From the initial trial, we can see their fitness level, and it’s crucial to maintain that, as the Australian team will present a significant challenge.”

Fiji Rugby Union technical coach Mike Legge is concentrating on enhancing the players’ core skills and position-specific techniques, which he believes are essential for competing effectively against Australia.

The matches are set to occur on September 27 and October 3 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
