The Fiji Schoolboys under-18 rugby team is engaged in rigorous training in preparation for two upcoming Test matches against Australia. Head coach Peniona Ranitu has selected an initial squad of 38 players from the 80 who participated in trials held on Wednesday. The final roster of 30 players will be determined next week following a training camp.
Ranitu highlighted the critical need to keep the players fit, particularly after a lengthy season competing in the Fiji Secondary School Deans competition. “The team will undergo strength and conditioning tests to evaluate their fitness and implement necessary changes,” Ranitu stated. He noted that the first trial helped gauge their fitness levels, which must be maintained, as facing the Australian team will present significant challenges.
Fiji Rugby Union technical coach Mike Legge aims to enhance the players’ core skills and position-specific techniques, believing this focus will bolster their competitiveness against Australia. The matches are set to be held on September 27 and October 3 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
