Peniona Ranitu, the head coach of the Fiji schoolboys rugby team, is set for his first national assignment as his team prepares to face the Australian schoolboys in a highly anticipated match at Lawaqa Park. The clash is scheduled to kick off at 6 pm tonight and promises to be a closely fought contest.

Recently coaching Lautoka Rugby, Ranitu has earned this national coaching role due to his impressive leadership and tactical skills at the domestic level. This opportunity represents a significant milestone in his coaching career as he steps up to guide the nation’s top schoolboy talents on the international stage.

“This is a huge challenge for me, transitioning from domestic competitions to my first national role,” Ranitu acknowledged. “However, these boys are very disciplined, which will be our strength in facing Australia.”

With a focus on creating a well-rounded team, Ranitu emphasizes the importance of discipline both on and off the field. He believes that the team’s strong work ethic and commitment will be vital in competing against a tough Australian side known for their physicality and tactical acumen, despite having limited preparation time.

“We have dedicated ourselves to maintaining structure and unity, which I believe will help us remain composed during the game,” he added. “Australia will be a challenge, but we are prepared for it.”

Ranitu has announced a robust 23-member squad for the match. The forward pack will feature Rupeni Nuinui as loosehead prop, Waisake Vakacere at hooker, and Raymond Navunikaba at tighthead prop. The second-row will include Sosiceni Waqa and Saimoni Vaisova, while Isoa Koroinawai, Samuela Tuidraki, and Sireli Nete will complete the loose forward trio.

In the backline, Meli Waqairadovu and Anare Tabakaucoro will form the winning halves pair from Queen Victoria School’s U18 Deans competition. Joji Rakaba and Maleli Nauvasi will occupy the centre positions, with Duacake Vulainabuwaha and Nathan Stephens on the wings, and Josaia Ralulu at fullback.
