Fiji School Triumphs: A Historic Win in Mathematics Competition!

Shiri Guru Nanak Khalsa Primary School achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the Fiji Mathematics Competition (FMC) for Year Eight for the first time this year. The school’s team, comprising Danish Prasad, Aarav Chand, Taniska Lal, and Ishita Lata, successfully answered 20 questions in just 31 minutes during the event held last Saturday at the Latter-Day Saints Church in Tamavua, Suva.

Team leader and head girl Taniska Lal expressed her confidence in winning, citing their previous success as Year Eight winners in the Northern Zone competition. “We dedicated a maximum of four weeks to prepare, with valuable assistance from our teachers, Kamlesh Karan and Ashweeni Dutt,” she noted.

With 14 schools from across Fiji participating, Lal emphasized that being named the overall winner was a significant accomplishment. School head teacher Rajesh Kumar expressed gratitude to the school manager, parents, teachers, and the families of other students for their collaborative efforts in fundraising, which made the students’ trip to Suva possible.

“This is the first time Year Eight students have reached the highest level, and to bring home the top trophy is a blessing,” Mr. Kumar commented. He added that the school promotes holistic development and that such competitions inspire other students to recognize their strengths and strive for excellence in their studies.
