Fiji School Stuns Competitors with First-Ever Math Victory!

Shiri Guru Nanak Khalsa Primary School has achieved a significant milestone by securing the top position in the Fiji Mathematics Competition (FMC) for Year Eight for the first time this year.

The school’s team, comprising Danish Prasad, Aarav Chand, Taniska Lal, and Ishita Lata, excelled in the competition held at the Latter-Day Saints Church in Tamavua, Suva, last Saturday. They completed 20 questions in just 31 minutes.

Team leader and school head girl Taniska expressed their confidence in winning, noting that they had previously triumphed in the Year Eight category of the Northern Zone competition. “We dedicated around four weeks to prepare, supported by our teachers, Kamlesh Karan and Ashweeni Dutt,” she stated.

The competition saw participation from 14 schools across Fiji, making their victory a significant accomplishment. School head teacher Rajesh Kumar expressed gratitude to the school manager, parents, teachers, and the families of other students for their collective efforts in fundraising, which allowed the team to travel to Suva for the event.

“It’s the first time Year Eight students have reached the highest level, and bringing the top trophy home is a remarkable blessing,” Mr. Kumar remarked. He emphasized the school’s commitment to holistic development, stating that such competitions inspire other students to discover their strengths and excel academically.
