Fiji School Makes History with Mathematics Victory!

Shiri Guru Nanak Khalsa Primary School achieved a significant milestone by winning the Fiji Mathematics Competition (FMC) for Year Eight, marking the first time the school has secured this title. The winning team, which included Danish Prasad, Aarav Chand, Taniska Lal, and Ishita Lata, successfully answered 20 questions in just 31 minutes during the event held at the Latter-Day Saints Church in Tamavua, Suva, last Saturday.

Team leader Taniska Lal expressed confidence in their victory, highlighting their previous success as Year Eight winners at the Northern Zone competition. She noted, “We prepared for a maximum of four weeks with the support of our teachers, Kamlesh Karan and Ashweeni Dutt.”

The competition featured participation from 14 schools across Fiji, making their overall victory a notable achievement. Rajesh Kumar, the school’s head teacher, expressed gratitude to the school manager, parents, teachers, and the families of other students for their collaborative efforts in raising funds that enabled the team to travel to Suva for the competition.

Mr. Kumar remarked, “This is the first time Year Eight students have reached the highest level, and bringing the top trophy home is a blessing.” He also emphasized the school’s commitment to holistic development and how such competitions can inspire other students to recognize their strengths and excel academically.
