Fiji School Makes History at National Math Competition

Shiri Guru Nanak Khalsa Primary School achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the Fiji Mathematics Competition (FMC) for Year Eight this year. The victorious team, comprising Danish Prasad, Aarav Chand, Taniska Lal, and Ishita Lata, successfully tackled 20 questions in just 31 minutes at the event held at the Latter-Day Saints Church in Tamavua, Suva, last Saturday.

Team leader and head girl Taniska expressed their confidence in securing the win, having previously triumphed in the Northern Zone competition. “We prepared for a maximum of four weeks with the help of our teachers, Kamlesh Karan and Ashweeni Dutt,” said Ms. Lal. She further highlighted the significance of their achievement, noting that 14 schools from across Fiji participated in the competition.

School head teacher Rajesh Kumar praised the collaborative efforts of the school manager, parents, teachers, and the families of other students, which facilitated the students’ travel to Suva for the event. “This is the first time Year Eight students have reached the highest level, and bringing the top trophy home is a blessing,” he remarked. Mr. Kumar emphasized the school’s commitment to holistic development, stating that such competitions inspire other students to recognize their strengths and excel in their studies.
