Fiji Rugby Union’s Triumphant Return to the World Stage!

The Fiji Rugby Union has regained its membership in the World Rugby Council. This decision followed a meeting of the World Rugby Executive Board in late July, during which they evaluated a report from the Fiji Oversight Committee.

The report highlighted that the FRU successfully conducted a Special General Meeting, wherein members unanimously approved a new constitution and governance structure. This development is considered a significant advancement in promoting transparency, accountability, and effective leadership within Fiji Rugby.

FRU Chairman Peter Mazey expressed gratitude for the support received from World Rugby and acknowledged the dedication of their stakeholders. He stated, “The adoption of our new constitution and governance framework is a testament to our dedication to moving Fiji Rugby forward. This reinstatement is not just a victory for our Union but for all our players, coaches, and fans who have stood by us during this period.”

Mazey further noted that this reinstatement would enable Fiji Rugby to strengthen its connections within the global rugby community and further its mission to develop the sport in Fiji. Following this development, the FRU will nominate a representative to the World Rugby Council, who will require vetting under the World Rugby Integrity Code before they can assume their position.

World Rugby also expressed appreciation to Fiji Oversight Committee members Dr. Robin Mitchell and Cathy Wong for their efforts in facilitating this positive outcome for the FRU, which remains committed to upholding the values and standards established by World Rugby.
