Fiji’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, stated that the trustees of the Fiji Rugby Union are prepared to investigate allegations of corruption and delayed payments, provided that players submit concrete evidence. In a parliamentary address, Saukuru acknowledged the claims made by the players but pointed out that substantial proof has yet to be presented to support these allegations. The trustees have indicated they are ready to relay credible information to the Fijian Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) or the police for further examination. While they are concerned about the players’ issues, the trustees stressed the necessity of having proper evidence before proceeding with any actions. Saukuru also confirmed that all players who participated in the 2023 Rugby World Cup have received full compensation from the Fiji Rugby Union.
