A couple has appeared in Suva Magistrates Court facing allegations of defrauding the Fiji Rugby Union. Pawan Deo, the former accountant for the Fiji Rugby Union, and his wife Subhashni Mudaliar face charges of conspiracy to defraud, obtaining a gain, and obtaining financial advantage.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Deo, who is the sole owner of Sports Supplies Limited and the accountant for the FRU, conspired with his wife to unlawfully acquire $53,788.75 from the union. The alleged misconduct took place in 2022, during which they are accused of fraudulently processing payments to Sports Supplies Limited, resulting in a benefit of $7,291.83, fully aware that the company was not entitled to this amount.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption reported that the couple appeared in court yesterday and has been remanded, with a bail hearing scheduled for today.
