The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) Board of Directors has officially terminated Laijipa Naulivou’s role as Director of Rugby following her recent resignation. This decision comes after Naulivou’s controversial remarks during a media interview that prompted the Board to take a decisive action to uphold professional standards within the organization.

Naulivou had only stepped into the position last Saturday, taking over from Conway Beg. The FRU emphasized that Naulivou’s views expressed during the interview do not align with the official stance of the organization and that discrimination of any kind is unequivocally rejected.

In a clear message, the Board reassured players and stakeholders that this decision will not hinder the opportunities, representation, or development of the women’s team and all other players within the union. The FRU remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone involved in Fiji Rugby, irrespective of their gender, background, or identity.

The FRU also reiterated its commitment to upholding the principles of good governance, ethical leadership, and competitive fairness as outlined by World Rugby. They are focused on ensuring that rugby development continues from grassroots to elite levels, with all decisions made in the best interests of the sport in Fiji.

As the FRU prepares for a leadership transition, the Board plans to collaborate with key stakeholders, including players, unions, and international partners, to maintain robust governance and operational frameworks. A comprehensive and transparent selection process for a new Director of Rugby will be initiated promptly.

This development underscores the FRU’s proactive approach to maintaining its integrity and commitment to inclusivity, which is vital for the growth and success of rugby in Fiji.
