Fiji Rugby Union Celebrates Major Comeback!

The Fiji Rugby Union has officially regained its membership in the World Rugby Council. This decision follows a meeting of the World Rugby Executive Board in late July, where they assessed a report from the Fiji Oversight Committee.

The report highlighted that the FRU successfully conducted a Special General Meeting, during which members unanimously approved a new constitution and governance framework. This move is viewed as a critical advancement toward enhancing transparency, accountability, and effective leadership within Fiji Rugby.

FRU Chairman Peter Mazey expressed appreciation for the support from World Rugby and the dedication of stakeholders. He stated, “The adoption of our new constitution and governance framework is a testament to our dedication to moving Fiji Rugby forward. This reinstatement is not just a victory for our Union but for all our players, coaches, and fans who have stood by us during this period.”

Mazey emphasized that this reinstatement would fortify Fiji Rugby’s connections within the global rugby community and aid in the continued growth of the sport in Fiji. With this progress, the FRU is set to nominate a representative to the World Rugby Council, who will undergo a vetting process in accordance with the World Rugby Integrity Code before being seated.

Additionally, World Rugby acknowledged the contributions of Fiji Oversight Committee members Dr. Robin Mitchell and Cathy Wong for their efforts in achieving this positive outcome. The FRU remains dedicated to upholding the principles and standards established by World Rugby.
