“Fiji Rugby Union Approves New Structure, Suva Rugby Union Anticipates Bright Future for the Sport”

Over the weekend, the Suva Rugby Union (SRU), a leading critic of the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU), expressed optimism about the future following the passing of a new structure. During a special general meeting at Novotel Suva Lami Bay Hotel, members of the FRU, representatives from World Rugby, and other union members successfully deliberated on the new layout.

This meeting was a crucial step for Fiji as it works towards a comeback in the World Rugby Council. SRU secretary Nemani Tuifagalele remarked that the new structure is consistent with the demands of today’s evolving game. He acknowledged initial teething problems but endorsed the framework that now includes trustees, a commercial arm, and an operational arm.

The SRU expressed its only concern about the Fiji Rugby Union Pvt Ltd, newly formed to supervise critical operations at Rugby House. While the SRU approved of the managing company, certain potential future issues were also acknowledged.

Tuifagalele indicated that the document is accepted for now, under the provision that changes or amendments could be applied over the coming two months as needed. He voiced his positivity about the structural changes and reiterated the SRU’s commitment to the best possible future for Fiji Rugby. Other matters like one union, one vote, and the trustees’ deed document were also discussed during the meeting.
