The Fiji Sports Council (FSC) and the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) have formalized their partnership by signing a memorandum of agreement to enhance the FSC U20 7s competition. This initiative aims to promote grassroots rugby in Fiji, with the FRU collaborating with the FSC to ensure the tournament’s success.
During the memorandum signing held last week at the FSC Boardroom, both organizations committed to organizing a tournament designed to identify and develop new talent, preparing them for potential future representation in the national team.
According to the agreement, the FSC will handle strategic planning and venue selection, while the FRU will provide technical expertise and oversight in rugby matters. This collaboration aims to create a competitive environment enjoyable for both male and female players.
The tournament will feature 16 teams each for the men’s and women’s divisions, showcasing a commitment to gender equality. The first leg of the competition will take place at Thompson Park in Navua in early November, allowing players of different skill levels to demonstrate their talents on the rugby field. The overall champion will be determined after five tournaments.
The schedule for the tournament series is as follows:
– Thompson Park, Navua: November 1-2
– Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka: November 8-9
– Ganilau Park, Savusavu: November 15-16
– Narauyaba Park, Rakiraki: November 22-23
– HFC Bank Stadium, Suva: November 29-30
