Fiji Rugby Stars Demand Change Amid Bonus Scandal

Fiji’s captain for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, Waisea Nayacalevu, along with fellow senior players Levani Botia and Semi Radradra, has expressed the need for transparency and professionalism within Fiji Rugby. They made these statements during a well-known social media podcast, addressing concerns regarding alleged mismanagement by the Fiji Rugby Union over promised incentives following the Rugby World Cup.

Nayacalevu emphasized that their concerns are not financially motivated but focus on securing a better future for upcoming generations of Fiji rugby players. He pointed out that agreements related to player payments made prior to the World Cup remain unfulfilled, stating, “enough is enough,” and labeled the ongoing issues as detrimental to the sport’s image.

Botia also confirmed that he, along with several players, has yet to receive a promised bonus of $105,000, despite having received a salary of $30,000 in two parts, one before and one after the tournament. He expressed his confusion over the whereabouts of the pending payments.

The experienced players are now advocating for a thorough investigation into the current state of affairs within Fiji Rugby.
