Fiji Rugby Stars Demand Action Amid Unpaid Promises

Fiji’s captain for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, Waisea Nayacalevu, along with senior players Levani Botia and Semi Radradra, have decided to address concerns regarding the management of Fiji rugby, emphasizing that their concerns are not financially motivated. They spoke out on a popular social media podcast about allegations of mismanagement by the Fiji Rugby Union, particularly concerning the incentives that were promised since the World Cup.

According to Nayacalevu, the issue is not about money but rather the future of the next generation of Fiji rugby players. He highlighted that agreements concerning player payments made prior to the World Cup have not been fulfilled, stating that enough is enough.

“This has been an ongoing issue for quite some time,” Nayacalevu remarked. “It reflects poorly on us, and it’s essential to establish a more professional environment at the top levels of Fiji Rugby.”

Botia added that he, like many players, has yet to receive the promised $105,000 bonus, although they did receive their $30,000 salary in two payments before and after the World Cup. “I have no idea where it went,” he expressed.

The senior players are now advocating for a thorough investigation into the current circumstances surrounding Fiji rugby.
