Jioji Nasova, 23, a player in the Fiji men’s rugby sevens team who first appeared on the HSBC SVNS series this year, is now set to represent his country in the forthcoming Paris Olympic Games which runs from July 26 to August 11.
The young player expressed his excitement about this opportunity, reflecting on his debut at the Hong Kong Sevens, which held a special place in his heart. Nasova told SUNsports that he’s grateful to the coaches who trusted him to represent his country at the prestigious Olympic games.
He added, “Those of us representing Fiji in France have worked hard to defend our gold medal. We have won the gold twice in recent years, but we are determined to bring home the gold for a third time.”
Nasova grew up in Toge, Ba, and had a brief stint with Beijing RC in 2023 under a one-year contract after being spotted while playing for the Dominion Brothers. His rugby journey started at the local level, playing briefly in the Suva 10s and the Skipper Cup competition for the Naitasiri Under-20 team. He attributes his success to the coach who discovered him and gave him a contract.
He was educated at Toge Primary School and continued his studies at Nukuloa College and Ba Provincial Freebird Institute, where he cultivated his love for the sport of rugby.
