Fiji Rugby Fraud: Couple Charged in Court Drama

A couple has appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court on charges of defrauding the Fiji Rugby Union. Pawan Deo, the former accountant for the Fiji Rugby Union, and his wife Subhashni Mudaliar each face charges of conspiracy to defraud, obtaining a gain, and obtaining a financial advantage.

The court was informed that Deo, who operates Sports Supplies Limited and served as the accountant for the Fiji Rugby Union, allegedly conspired with his wife to unlawfully acquire $53,788.75 from the organization in 2022. They are accused of facilitating fraudulent payments to Sports Supplies Limited, ultimately securing $7,291.83 for the company, despite knowing it was not entitled to those funds.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption reported that the couple appeared in court yesterday and has been remanded, with a bail hearing scheduled for today.
