Fiji Resort Champions Mangrove Conservation with Local Community

Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay recently celebrated World Mangrove Day by hosting a mangrove-planting event in collaboration with the Mamanuca Environment Society. The event saw active participation from 40 associates and guests who collectively planted 1,000 mangroves.

This effort is part of the resort’s broader ambition to plant a total of 3,000 mangroves by the end of 2024, underscoring its commitment to the preservation and enhancement of local ecosystems. General manager Silvano Dressino emphasized that sustainability is a fundamental aspect of their operations.

“World Mangrove Day offers a wonderful opportunity for our associates and guests to contribute to a meaningful environmental cause. We are eager to witness the positive outcomes of our efforts as we work towards our mangrove planting goals,” Dressino stated.

He also noted that Ms. Mataika would play a key role in advancing the resort’s environmental initiatives. “Participating in sustainability projects like mangrove planting provides our guests and staff with a ‘Momi Moment’ — a special connection to the environment and the local community that extends beyond their visit.”

In celebration of World Mangrove Day, the resort’s beverage team created two special cocktails: the Mangrove Martini and Coastal Breeze, made with fresh herbs from their garden. For each cocktail sold, the hotel is donating $12 to the Mamanuca Environment Society (MES) to support ongoing conservation efforts in Fiji.

Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay continues to prioritize environmental sustainability and community engagement through these meaningful initiatives.
