More than a thousand attendees gathered at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday for the first day of the George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso Homecoming concert. Before 3 PM, a long line formed at the entrance, generating a lively atmosphere filled with excitement and anticipation.
The concert drew both local and international music lovers and performers, highlighting Fiji as a dynamic hub for music and cultural experiences. The show kicked off with performances from international artists Lomez Brown, Junior Soqeta, Justin Wellinton, and Jaro Local, who energized the crowd as they sang along.
Despite the lengthy wait, attendees enthusiastically chanted and enjoyed classic hits from celebrated Pacific Island artists like JBoog and George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso, leaving many fans pleased as the night concluded.
Brent Hill, the CEO of Tourism Fiji, remarked that events like this not only enhance Fiji’s local economy but also demonstrate the country’s unique allure and hospitality. He noted, “People travel to see their favorite artists, and we know that many tourists are arriving from the Pacific Islands, Aotearoa, Australia, and even the US for this concert. We certainly encourage such events and look forward to collaborating with more promoters to bring music acts to Fiji that significantly contribute to our economy and lifestyle.”
Viliame Gavoka, the Minister for Tourism, stated that the concert provides an excellent opportunity for local businesses in the hospitality and retail sectors to benefit from the influx of concertgoers. “This event is more than just a musical celebration; it is a significant milestone for Fiji’s tourism sector,” he said. “As our tourism industry continues to expand, hosting such major events highlights our ability to provide world-class entertainment and cultural experiences.”
He emphasized that George Veikoso’s homecoming concert is particularly meaningful as it honors the country’s rich cultural legacy and celebrates the global achievements of one of its native artists. The two-day concert will conclude today.
