Fiji President Celebrates 85 Years of School Rugby Excellence

The President of the Republic of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, commended the collaborative efforts of schools, organizers, parents, and sponsors for creating a nurturing environment for secondary school rugby.

During his speech at the 85th Fiji Secondary Schools Under 18 Deans final at HFC Stadium, President Katonivere highlighted the crucial role of rugby in shaping the lives of young Fijians.

“It is always a pleasure to celebrate rugby moments at home, especially when they involve our students – our children,” he stated.

He remarked on the significance of the event, stating, “This is the platform and humble beginning of the rugby journey for our young students, and I am proud to be part of this celebration – marking 85 years of Fiji Secondary School Rugby and the final of the 2024 DEANS Competition.”

The President urged the student athletes to value their experiences and the friendships formed, encouraging them to return even stronger in the following year.

“There are many young boys and girls who would want to be in your position. Enjoy the moment. Cherish the friendships. Take the lessons you have learned along the way and return as better players next year,” he advised.

Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to parents and supporters for their steadfast dedication to the players’ well-being.
