Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has declared 2025 as a significant year for Fiji, marking the Emerald Jubilee, which symbolizes the 55th anniversary of the nation’s independence. In his New Year message, Rabuka expressed optimism about the upcoming year, acknowledging potential challenges but emphasizing hope, strength, and unity as essential for the nation’s prosperity.

He highlighted the importance of faith in God, the people, and the nation, drawing inspiration from the first verse of Fiji’s national anthem, which reflects a sense of optimism and patriotism. “As we embrace the New Year, let us do so with renewed hope, driven by love and forgiveness, and strive towards a future grounded in unity and goodwill,” he stated.

In his address, Rabuka recognized the contributions of civil servants, first responders, and members of the armed forces, commending their dedication to the safety and order of the nation throughout the year. He also acknowledged the efforts of Fijians serving in peacekeeping missions abroad and those involved in humanitarian aid, such as the advanced team in Vanuatu.

Looking ahead, the Prime Minister underscored the establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which aims to foster truth-telling, healing, and the restoration of relationships and social cohesion within Fiji. Internationally, he reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to promoting the Ocean of Peace concept, a key element of the country’s foreign policy.

Overall, Rabuka’s message resonates with hope and a call for unity, suggesting that despite any obstacles ahead, the spirit of togetherness and mutual support among Fijians can lead to a brighter future.

This message of resilience is especially important as Fiji approaches its milestone year, as it invites all citizens to participate actively in creating a cohesive and harmonious society.
