The Fiji Powerlifting team is currently competing in the 2024 Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships held in Nauru, which kicked off yesterday. The athletes are participating in various weight categories, including under 74kg, under 83kg (sub-junior), under 93kg, under 105kg, and under 120kg.
As the national team prepares, they are confident in their preparation to secure gold at the championship. Fiji Powerlifting president, Viliame Lagonilakeba, expressed optimism about the team’s chances, noting that they have dedicated themselves to a rigorous training regimen. The athletes recently completed a six-week training program designed by Ryan Bale of Fiji Strength Systems, following an intense national competition in September.
The organization has acknowledged the support of the Government and the Fiji Sports Commission, who have assisted in facilitating the team’s journey to Nauru for this important event. As the sport of powerlifting gains traction in Fiji, the governing body aims to make the most of the positive momentum and support from the local community in Nauru.
The team left Fiji on Wednesday and is grateful for the encouragement it has received from the Fijian community in Nauru.
