The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a robust 10-member team for the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships, set to take place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2, 2014. Federation president Viliame Lagonilakeba confirmed the team’s composition, which includes six athletes and four officials.
Lagonilakeba emphasized the significant challenge of competing in Nauru, noting that powerlifting is an integral part of their culture and that many world champions hail from the region. This reputation positions Nauru as one of the most formidable powerlifting nations globally.
He expressed confidence in the athletes, stating they are well-prepared for the competition ahead and eager to test their strength and skills against top competitors from the region.
The team of athletes from Fiji includes Vivaan Patel in the Men’s sub-junior U83kg category, Vinesh Chand in the Men’s Open U74kg, Faga Varea in the Men’s Open U93kg, Muzammil Ali in the Men’s Open U120kg, and Kurt Wise, who serves as the captain in the Men’s Open U120kg category.
The team officials consist of head coach Eric Jioje (non-travelling), Ryan Bale (non-travelling), assistant coach Salacieli Koroi (travelling), and team manager/doctor Jessa May Banchod (travelling).
