Fiji Ports Set for a Major Transformation: What’s in Store?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has inaugurated three significant projects for the Fiji Ports Terminal Limited, aimed at improving operational efficiency, sustainability, and border security at Lautoka port.

During the announcement, Rabuka emphasized that these initiatives are integral to the government’s broader strategy under the transformational strategic thrusts policy, which focuses on enhancing critical infrastructure in line with the nation’s commitment to sustainable economic growth.

The launched projects comprise maintenance dredging over an area of 63,624 square meters, which is essential for maintaining the port’s depth and navigability, allowing it to accommodate larger vessels.

Additionally, the projects include the development of a container yard and a pilot boat named “Louvaju,” designed to boost maritime control and border security by extending operational capabilities beyond the port limits.

The Prime Minister underscored the significance of these advancements in relation to Fiji’s wider strategic vision, noting that it is vital for the country to effectively manage the traffic coming in from both the east and west, facilitating access to the island territories.
