The Fiji Police Force is advising the public to exercise caution after a troubling social media post suggested that individuals are injecting chemicals into fresh coconuts, or “Bu,” to sedate homeowners for burglary purposes. The post included an alarming image of people lying on the ground with police officers present, which has heightened concern among residents.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, addressed the growing anxiety by urging individuals not to spread unverified information that could provoke fear or panic. He encouraged those who have information on the matter to formally report it to the police for validation.

Driu emphasized the importance of sharing verified information through official channels to ensure the community is accurately informed. He reassured the public that if credible trends relating to criminal activities emerge, the police would promptly communicate these developments.

In an effort to combat misinformation, the police outlined several official channels where suspicious activities can be reported, including Crime Stoppers at 919, and the Serious Organised Crime & Intelligence Department (SOCID) at 3370012. Direct contacts for the SOCID directors were also provided for any urgent communication.

The police reiterated their commitment to keeping the public informed and urged caution in sharing details on social media. They informed community members that staying vigilant and reporting suspicious behavior directly to the authorities is crucial for maintaining safety and security.

In conclusion, while the situation is concerning, the proactive response from the police and their call for verified information indicate a strong commitment to addressing community safety. This collaborative approach can foster trust and promote a collective effort to prevent crime and maintain peace in the region.
